U.S. Temporarily Suspends Immigration Processing for Foreign Nationals

Following a shooting incident near the White House in Washington involving two National Guard members, the United States has temporarily halted all immigration processing for foreign nationals.

On Friday, Joseph Edlow, Director of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), announced in a message via Axios that no final decisions regarding asylum or other immigration applications would be made until the safety of foreign nationals is fully verified. The move is aimed at ensuring that applicants’ security is thoroughly assessed before any approvals or rejections are issued.

According to a report by CBS, USCIS officers have been instructed not to take any final actions on asylum cases or other immigration requests from applicants worldwide. While officers may continue to review and vet applications, the issuance of final decisions has been suspended temporarily.

Earlier, President Donald Trump had declared a freeze on accepting immigrants from certain “third-world” countries, although he did not specify which nations would be affected. Legal experts suggest that this policy could face significant legal challenges and draw international criticism. The United Nations and several of its agencies have already expressed strong disapproval of Trump’s stance.

Since taking office for his second term, President Trump has pursued a stricter immigration policy. Measures include the deportation of numerous immigrants and moves to end automatic U.S. citizenship for children born on American soil. These actions reflect the administration’s continued focus on tightening immigration regulations and enhancing national security measures.
