Dhaka, 28 December – Ahead of the upcoming national elections, the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami-led alliance has expanded to include the National Citizen Party (NCP) and the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), bringing the total number of parties in the coalition to ten. This was officially announced on Sunday (28 December) by Jamaat Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman.
Dr. Rahman said, “The goal of this alliance is to establish a strong electoral understanding. We recently held a meeting with NCP, and they have joined this agreement. Tonight, the announcement will be made formally through a press conference.”
He further explained, “Across 300 constituencies nationwide, the parties have discussed and negotiated seat allocations among themselves. Although the nominations in a few constituencies are not yet finalized, they will be confirmed once nomination papers are submitted. There will be no issues in this regard.”
Highlighting the importance of a free and fair election, Dr. Rahman stated, “We have less than two months left. We are committed to ensuring a transparent and acceptable election. We also urge cooperation so that the election schedule remains unchanged. A level playing field has not yet been created for all parties, and we hope the nation will not tolerate any deviation from a fair process.”
In addition to Jamaat and NCP, the alliance includes the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Khelafat Majlis, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, Khelafat Andolan, Jatiya Ganotantrik Party-JAGPA, and Nezam-e-Islam Party. However, the allocation of constituencies for each party has not yet been announced.
